What a way to start an Open! Marisa snatched the 120 four times to leave her 4th in the northwest and 56 worldwide. (and then she smiled)
Lisa sits 25th and Jim 23rd in their divisions where the top 30 advance straight to the Games. Remember that Lisa was at the Games (finishing 9th) two years ago and Jim qualified last year before he decided to scare all of us and spend some quality time with surgeons and intensive care units. SO GREAT to see those two back at it!
Our team sits in 32nd. The top 30 get to go to Regionals so while we're not in a bad place we have some work to do. We're just glad the burpee workout this year had some "big guy" lifting to an otherwise "little-guy-body-weight" centered WOD. It was a balanced test that suited us. Plus, now we know that burpees are over and done with!
You may recall how much fun I had with Kurtis around last years Games when CrossFit's media kept asking him for his thoughts on the Masters-- his argument was that he wasn't even a master yet! But that all changed with the announcement of the new 40-44 age group. He's gettin' older, for sure, but he's in 7th in the NW and 81st overall. Of course since he runs the Masters event at the Games he won't get to compete there but we'll let him daydream a little anyway.
Special kudos to Jackie who didn't have the right weight on the bar on Saturday so she returned Sunday to face that monster again. Jackie put the 75 overhead 22 times and smiled (almost) the whole time.
Some incredible stories of heart, perseverance, and accomplishment come out of the Opens and we'll tell some from time to time but right out of the gate I need to thank our judges who make this thing happen for us: Josh, Cheryl, Steve, Aaron, Tim, Carrie, Kristin, Dan, Kim, Amie, Travis, Chuck, Carly, Joe, Richard, and Tom. Most of you pull double duty on these days, warming up, competing, and judging. We know that makes for a crazy morning but we thrive on chaos around here and couldn't do it without you. Thank you.
A couple of things:
NO 13.2 on Saturday 3/16. (We have a CrossFit Level 1 seminar in the gym) so we want to invite you guys out FRIDAY NIGHT from 5-8 instead. (yes, we have beer) We'd love to have the big group then, but if that time doesn't work for you, let us know one that does and we'll put you on the schedule.
Save Saturday afternoon April 6th! It'll be the end of the Opens and we'll BBQ at RCF after we're done. We'll provide the burgers (grass-fed from US Wellness, of course!) and the beverages. We'll potluck the rest. We've requested sunshine-- think we can get Josh to make hard cider????

Forget the cider...he wants to make STOUT!
